Going Green At Garden Beats 2020: How Did We Do?

21 March 2020 | Lifestyle

Every year, we set ourselves some green goals. Now that the dust has settled back onto Fort Canning Park, we take a look back on how we did this year.

Garden Beats 2020 keeps its title as a 100% carbon-neutral festival by running the entire festival on Environmental Solutions Asia. This reduces our carbon footprint, while also making an impact on the environment as…

We offset 170 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions, which will fund a social cause. This year Garden Beats supported the Honiton Energy Bailingmiao Windfarm Project in China, reducing carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions with certified impacts in accordance to United Nations Sustainability Development Goals in the area of Affordable and Clean Energy (7), Decent Work and Economic Growth (8), and of course Climate Action (13).

This year’s Garden Groupies planted 400 trees by choosing to make a difference and donating US$1 from their ticket purchase. 100 trees each in The Sundarbans, Amazon Rainforest, Indonesia & Australia were planted together with One Tree Planted, a non-profit environmental charity that plants trees in regions to promote a healthy climate and protecting biodiversity.

We used over 10,000 less single-use cups. By implanting a ban on single-use plastics and partnered with MUUSE for a cup rental system, we reduced unnecessary wastage throughout the festival. Some of you even bought your own reusable cups, which came with a limited edition GB2020 lanyard!

While we have reached many milestones in our journey towards a green festival, we still have a long way to go —but for now, every Garden Groupie should feel as proud as we do about these achievements.

See you in 2021.
